Free video editing classes in VALORAE Cast: what you get, and four checks for any free class
From 1 October 2026 VALORAE Cast runs a live editing class in its Discord every day except Sunday, with nothing to pay and nothing extra to sign up for. What each class includes, what it does not promise, where it sits next to the paid Elite tier, and four checks to run on any free editing class before you give it your evenings.
Short answer
VALORAE Cast runs free live video editing classes in its Discord from 1 October 2026, Monday to Saturday. A mentor teaches each session, and members get the class project files, the resource library and the lead board. Nothing is charged, and the classes are open to every member, Elite or not.
VALORAE Cast's first live editing class runs today, Thursday 1 October 2026.
Then one every day except Sunday.
Nothing to pay. Nothing extra to sign up for. If you are in the Discord, you can be in the room.
I know how that reads.
"Free class" is the front door of a lot of scams in this space. The shape is familiar: a free session, then a pitch, then a course that costs more than the work it promises will ever pay you back.
That is the complication with announcing anything free to editors. The people who most need a free class are the ones who have been burned by one.
So this post does two things. It says exactly what the classes are, and what they are not. Then it gives you four checks to run on any free class, ours included.
1. What the classes are
A live session on the Editing Stage, the stage channel inside the Cast Discord.
A mentor runs each one. You watch the edit happen in real time, and you can raise a hand and ask about a cut while it is still on screen.
Monday to Saturday. Each session is a scheduled event in the server. Discord shows the start time in your own time zone, so check it on the event rather than trusting a time someone pastes into chat.
There is no application, no form and no portfolio check to get in. Membership is the ticket.
2. What you get from a class
Three things come with it.
The project files used in the class. Watching someone edit is useful. Opening the same timeline afterwards and taking it apart at your own pace is where most of the learning happens.
The resource library. Cast keeps an editing resources forum of assets members use in their own cuts. Class members already have it, because class members are members.
The lead board. This is where Cast posts client work for editors. The skill you pick up on a Tuesday evening has somewhere to go the same week.
That last part is the reason the classes sit inside Cast rather than on a video page somewhere. A lesson with no work attached is a hobby. A lesson in the same server as the work is a start.
3. What the classes do not promise
No class makes you a good editor in a week.
A class shows you how someone else solves a problem. Getting good is the hours you put in afterwards, on your own footage, with the project file open beside you.
No class guarantees you work either. The lead board has leads on it. Whether one turns into a client depends on your reel and on how you reply.
And no class is a gate. You do not need to attend to submit to Cast's campaigns, which pay starting from $0.80 per 1,000 views, or to reply to a lead. The classes are there for people who want them.
If you want to see the other side of an edit, the buyer side, VALORAE Arc's checklist for podcast clips on Instagram is written for the people who own the footage. It is a decent picture of what a client checks before a clip goes live.
4. Where the classes sit next to Elite
Cast has a paid tier called Elite. Our post on paying for a clipping community lists what it buys: priority reviews, weekly one on one coaching, private campaigns and earlier access to leads.
The classes are not on that list.
They are open to every member, Elite or not. They are not a trial of Elite, and you do not need Elite to attend any of them.
The difference is the shape of the time. A group class with a mentor is teaching for the whole room. One on one coaching is a person's time spent on you alone, and that is the thing Elite charges for.
5. Four checks for any free editing class
Use these on us. Use them on anyone else, too.
Does it ask for money at any point to keep going? A free class that turns into "part two is for paying members" was a sales call with a lesson attached. Cast's position, in the post above, is blunt: any join fee, unlock fee or required purchase to reach paid work is a scam.
Do you get the files? Watching an edit teaches less than opening its timeline. A class that will not share its project leaves you with notes and nothing to take apart.
Can the teacher show work you can check? Ask to see what they have cut, posted where you can find it. Anyone teaching editing should have a reel.
Is there somewhere to use it? Learning is the beginning. A class attached to a place where editing work gets posted gives you a reason to practise this week, not someday.
A class that fails the first check is not a class. A class that fails the other three can still teach you something, so go in knowing what it is.
6. How to get the most out of a class
A live class is easy to watch and easy to forget.
Three habits make it stick.
Pick one thing before you join. A transition you keep fumbling, how to pace captions, how to cut a long answer down. Watch the class for that one thing, and ask about it if it does not come up.
Write down the moment, not the lesson. When the mentor does something you would not have thought of, note what was on screen. Then find it in the project file afterwards and redo it yourself.
Use it the same night. Open your own footage and try the technique before you sleep. A technique you have used once on your own clip is worth more than three you watched.
7. How to get into the room
Join through the only invite, discord.gg/valoraecast. Why there is only one invite explains why any other link claiming to be Cast should be ignored.
Pick your lane when you land, editing or clipping.
Then find the Editing Stage events and mark the ones you can make. Discord will remind you when they start.
Bring something of your own to cut. The class is more useful when you have footage to try it on that night.

Frequently asked questions
Are the VALORAE Cast editing classes free?
Yes. There is nothing to pay and nothing to sign up for beyond joining the Cast Discord at discord.gg/valoraecast. The classes are open to every member and are not part of the paid Elite tier.
When do the VALORAE Cast editing classes run?
Every day except Sunday, from Thursday 1 October 2026. Each session is a scheduled event in the Cast Discord, and Discord shows the start time in your own time zone.
What do I get from a Cast editing class?
A live session with a mentor on the Editing Stage, the project files used in that class, the editing resource library, and the lead board where client work for editors is posted.
Do I need to attend the classes to get campaign work in Cast?
No. The classes are optional. Campaigns and the lead board are open to members whether or not they attend.
How can I tell if a free editing class is a scam?
Check four things: whether it asks for money at any point to keep going, whether you get the project files, whether the teacher can show work you can verify, and whether there is somewhere to use the skill afterwards. Any join fee or required purchase to reach paid work is a scam.
Learn the craft, then get paid for it.
